Our Impact

Children’s Wellbeing and Mental Health

Empowering Young Lives in the UK

Many children and young people in the UK face overwhelming challenges, particularly due to the pandemic, rising living costs, and global uncertainty. Sadly, the demand for mental health support far exceeds the resources available. As of March 2024, hundreds of thousands of children in England sought professional help for mental health struggles. Disturbingly, nearly one in three UK children live in poverty. According to the Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse, one in ten children in England and Wales experiences sexual abuse before the age of 16. Thousands of vulnerable young people also fall prey to criminal exploitation each year. Without immediate action, their futures remain at risk.

Working Together for a Brighter Future

For more than 140 years, we have been committed to helping young people survive and thrive. Now, more than ever, we must stand together, raise our voices, and take action to create a society where every child has the opportunity to flourish.

Providing Direct Support

Our mission is to ensure that every young person leaving our care feels happier, more confident, and optimistic about their future. We listen to their concerns, support them in understanding and managing their emotions, and guide them toward their personal goals. Above all, we prioritize their safety, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to recognize and navigate potentially harmful situations.

We actively seek feedback from the young people we support to improve our services continually. We also collaborate with key partners—including the police, social services, community organizations, and charities—to provide comprehensive, effective support.

Ensuring Access to Essential Resources

We work to strengthen professional understanding and practices to address young people’s needs better. Advocating for greater financial investment, we push for policies that relieve economic pressures on families and enhance support services. Our research, shaped by the voices and experiences of young people, drives systemic improvements at both local and national levels. Additionally, our newly developed impact measurement framework helps us track and enhance the positive changes we bring about.

Building a Movement for Change

Our work is built on strong relationships—with young people, supporters, professionals, and government bodies. Every year, generous individuals power our mission by donating, volunteering, running charity shops, and participating in fundraising efforts. Their contributions create real, lasting change.By growing our network of supporters, we can influence public attitudes and inspire action nationwide. Through advocacy campaigns, community engagement, and media outreach, we shine a spotlight on the challenges young people face and ensure their needs are not ignored.
